Who was Gordie?

Gordie was our Saint Bernard.

Like every Saint Bernard, he had an enormous appetite and an even bigger heart. He wasn’t “just a dog.” He was family.

As he got older, we started making homemade meals for him — partly because we wanted to know exactly what he was eating, and partly because cooking for someone you love is one of the simplest ways to show that love.

One recipe became another. Those became binders. Screenshots. Random notes. Sticky notes on the fridge. Recipes scattered across phones, notebooks, and chat conversations. Eventually we realized we needed one place to keep everything.

That’s how Gordie’s Kitchen was born.

Today

Today Gordie is gone — he passed away in October 2025 — but his recipes aren’t.

Now they’re tested by Sailor, our Golden Retriever. Some recipes have changed. Some have been improved. Some have stayed exactly the same because they were perfect the first time.

Every recipe here exists because one dog inspired us to cook.

Why this site exists

Dogs deserve real food. That doesn’t mean expensive. That doesn’t mean complicated. Just honest ingredients prepared with care.

This site isn’t a pet food company, a startup, or a subscription product. It’s a family cookbook that happens to live on the internet — built so we never lose another recipe.
